Why I’m standing
Folkestone & Hythe is where I lived with my family for approaching a decade. All year round I’ve campaigned on the doorsteps and in the community, right across the constituency. So I know what needs to change, and how Labour can win here.
My mum worked in the NHS and looked after our elderly in care homes, having emigrated from the Philippines. Her values of compassion, hard work and public service run through everything I do.
Working as a barrister for the last 17 years, I’ve used the law to protect workers’ rights, put a roof over people’s heads, and hold Tory governments to account.
I’ve spent my working life fighting for people who have suffered injustice. This has been a privilege; but I’m tired of clearing up the wreckage caused by Tory policies. It breaks my heart to see what 14 years of Tory failure has done to Folkestone & Hythe, and to our country.
Fixing what the Tories have broken, and making our public services and NHS work again, will be just the start of what a Labour government must do.
From Westminster to Castle Hill Avenue and our towns and parishes, we need Labour’s positive vision of hope and social justice. Eradicating poverty, securing fair wages, and protecting workers’ rights. Fixing the housing crisis through house building, making homes truly affordable. Reliable and cheap local bus services; more cycling and electric vehicles, cleaner air. Championing clean seas and waterways, preserving the natural beauty we cherish. Visionary investment in green industries, using our natural assets to generate power sustainably. Rebuilding neighbourhood policing. Handing power to local councils, so democracy is truly local and a two-way street, with residents shaping their own communities. And sensible asylum and immigration policies, fostering decency and common sense.
I will be a dynamic, collaborative, and hard working Parliamentary candidate. I have the proven resilience to win against a strong opponent; and will be a persuasive communicator in the press, on social media and at community events. Politics starts here in our communities; and I will listen and learn from as many people as I can to make sure that Folkestone & Hythe’s voice in Parliament brings positive change for everybody.
